Under ser dere maleriet på veggen her hjemme hos meg.

In English:

Monique Devine's foundation poodle, a special story ..

This fall I received a package by post. It was from Unni Andersen, thank you so much, Unni!
In the package was a big and thick book with Title: The book of the Poodle, by Anna Katherine Nicholas,

Unni has had this book for many years, and since she knew how interested I was in poodle history and pedigrees, she had decided that I should have this book.
I would like to admit that I was very pleased with this book.

When I got to page 153, my eyes met a picture that I have on my wall at home, an original painting painted by a Frenchman who has signed this painting, T Davis.

The painting is of Monique Devine's Foundation bitch, Freeland's Fair Weather, and it hung on the wall at Monique's home for many, many years .... until I visited her in the 80's.

She had many beautiful paintings on her living room wall, and especially this picture "caught" me.
Monique saw my excitement and decided there and then that I should have it with me home to Norway.

We sealed the painting in a box shop and it became a bit of a package. The painting is 100 x 75 cm, and very heavy ...

When I got home to Oslo, the painting was not with the plane. I had landed in Copenhagen on my trip home, and there I had to take another plane.
I was waiting for more flights from Copenhagen, but at last I had to leave home without the painting.

Monique became almost hysterical when I called her and said that the painting had not arrived, and we both began to call and search, without it getting anything out of it.

We just had to wait and see.

After a month, I received a phonecall from the customs station at home, they could tell that they had a package with my name on, and they wondered what was in the package. I said it was a picture of my friend's first poodle (and well, it was the truth).

I was then told I could just come and get it.
I did not hesitate to go to the town and pick it up.

It was a person who became very happy over there in the United States.

Every time I see this painting, I think of Monique Devine, Freeland's Kennel.
She was French, as this painting is also, and she knew the artist who painted this picture.
I remember she always said: I'm Frrrrench !!  :)

Back to my story, I had two dogs from her, INT.NO CH Freeland's Floodlight, and Freeland Fretwell D'Manorhil, and Monique also went to Norway to visit her two dogs here by me.
We had some very great days together, and we managed to get her to judge poodles on a show outside Stockholm, Sweden, while she was here.
Do you remember Mickael Nilsson ?  :)

Above you can see her painting on the wall here at my place.
A true nostalgic painting, protected with glass.
Below the poodle in the Picture there is a flower table and it says: Memere Gigi ..

I wish I had known more about the artist too !
